Aberdeen City Hall
City Council meetings are held the
second and fourth Wednesday of
every month at 7:15p.m. Everyone is
invited to attend and even make
comments.
Know Our Direction
Keep up to date on the happenings
with our city council: listen to or read
the news, attend meetings, and call
your council member or mayor when
you have questions or concerns.
When driving down the road, it's very important to
look ahead so that you can plan how you will react to
what's ahead, instead of what's directly in front of
you. If you only watch the 15 or 20 feet in front of
your car, you're going to have a lot of accidents. If
you look further out, you can react more smoothly,
and plan accordingly. Of course, knowing where
you want to go, and how to get there will improve the
drive dramatically.

prosperity isn't much different. It is important to react to situations as they arise. It's
also important to be flexible in how you react. Neither of those imply, however, that
you shouldn't know where you want this city to go. As such, here are three things
Aberdeen should accomplish in the next five years:

Otherwise, the second digit of your precinct number refers to your ward (i.e. 111 is in the 1st Ward, 162 is in the 6th Ward, etc).

Become a more business friendly city
Boost community pride
Implement effective, creative solutions
As a candidate to represent the 4th Ward on the Aberdeen City Council, I have mapped
a plan for how we can achieve these goals, including some of the points we should
reach along our journey. For each of the three main goals, here are some specific
objectives to reach them:
Become a more business friendly city
- Lower the B&O tax to match other cities of similar size, while maintaining
services. This will be no small task, but is important to our long term
business climate, and will result in a more reliable revenue stream.
- Support the redevelopment of the South Aberdeen Weyerhauser property
into something that provides jobs, and makes people proud to live here.
- Facilitate growth in our core business areas, which will also help prevent
sprawl in our surrounding unincorporated areas.
- Be a destination for visitors with more unique businesses, points of
interest, effective advertising, and better (not necessarily more) parking.
- Encourage senior oriented businesses, including medical and
professional services, to locate in the City of Aberdeen.
Boost community pride
- Be a full partner in Grays Harbor Vision 2020, implementing those ideas
which our city is best suited to accomplish.
- Support the arts community, for they enrich our lives, as well as our
families'.
- Honor the legacy of Kurt Cobain without falling victim to the irony inherent
in a celebration of his life here.
- Develop new, or revive forgotten homegrown celebrations.
- Meet the standards necessary to become a Tree City USA.
- Ensure that our Police and Fire Departments keep the tools they need to
keep our community safe.
Implement effective, creative solutions
- Place on the ballot for the voters to decide, whether to keep a twelve
member city council, or reduce the council size to seven
- Form a Teen Advisory Board to address issues our city faces, using their
input to help shape their city, for the benefit of everyone.
- Find effective ways to stop the behavior of those that vandalize our parks
and leave shopping carts strewn throughout our neighborhoods.
Some objectives are simple, while others are anything but, creating an ambitious
but reachable vision of where we could be in five short years. I hope you will join me
in driving Aberdeen forward. With your vote, we can start down that road together!
Thank you very much for your time and support,
Steven Puvogel, Candidate for Aberdeen City Council, Ward 4
